The Wayward Children books don't necessarily have to be read in order, since each features a different protagonist, but I highly recommend at least reading EVERY HEART A DOORWAY first because it sets the world and reality and introduces the characters of Eleanor West's Home for Wayward Children. ![]() It has taken me all the way until now to have time read the books, but I blew through all four in a week and am already excited for more books. When, decades later, Marie ascends to abbess, the sisters become her daughters, who respond with fear and inspiration to Marie’s increasingly ambitious building plans for the abbey based on her visions of the Virgin Mary. Phillip, charming do-gooder rich boy, uses his money to facilitate one last legend trip to Japan. Nadia and Faiz are tying the knot, and Nadia's always wanted to get married in a haunted house. They do go to the wedding, although the five protagonists used to ghost-hunt and legend trip (that's when you visit the site of some supernatural or tragic event) together, so the haunting is invited, too. ![]() Their past history seethes on or just under the surface scratch any of them, and complicated hurts and loyalties spill out like viscera. ![]() ![]() The characters in Cassandra Khaw's creepy, gorgeous novella Nothing But Blackened Teeth leave well-lit places and easy access to help.
